Chicago
My time in Chicago was incredible.
I recently accompanied Chicago Coalition for the Homeless (CCH) on street outreach. I also attended CCH's moving Horizons showcase, which featured original poetry by grassroots leaders and their children.
At the conclusion of the event, CCH introduced me to Robert Henderson, the plaintiff in the first substantive case filed under the Illinois Bill of Rights for the Homeless Act. Robert's story is what inspired me to come to Chicago, so you can imagine how blown away I was by this unexpected intro. It was a privilege to have breakfast with Robert the next morning.
Through these experiences I have gained insights in a way that would not have been possible through desk-based research. I am so grateful to everyone who has met with me during my travels to date, and to the Winston Churchill Trust for giving me this wonderful opportunity.
